Squat advances to final round in Future of Jazz competition!
Squat placed second in the 2004 Future of Jazz competition. The finals were held at the Rialto Theatre, with other finalists including Abbebi Stafford and Amanda Sedgewick. We had a blast and I got a chance to meet Earl Klugh, which was a thrill. Congrats to Abbebi and we are planning on participating in next year's event which starts in February.. Squat performs the first Friday of every month at the Apache Cafe (www.apachecafe.info) in Atlanta from 8:30-11:30. Thanks to everyone that came out for the 10 year anniversary shows! We had a blast and enjoyed celebrating it with you. We are excited to have released the new CD, Recycled 1994-2004. The CD is now available at Decatur CD, Wuxtry in Athens, Schoolkids in Athens, www.athensmusic.net, and the Homegrown Music Network. We will soon be selling the CD at Amazon.com and CD baby.com. Squat will be performing a short set on Sunday, November 14 at Churchill Grounds for the Future of Jazz Competition. Two other groups will be playing that night and we will go on at 9:45 or so. Tickets are $7. This will be the band's first performance at the club. The winner of this round will go on to play at the Rialto in December for the finals, to be judged by Earl Klugh and the Blue Note A&R staff! We are also pleased to begin our house gigs next month. Squat will be performing from 8:30-11:30 every first Friday of every month at the Apache Cafe in Atlanta (www.apachecafe.info). Also in the works is a Foundry gig in Athens every second Friday. Due to our hectic personal schedules and bookings for weddings, we will be traveling less and focusing more energy on house gigs. Thanks for the continued support! Our press release for the new CD is below.

Squat Press Release:
The Athens/Atlanta Ga based jazz and latin quartet Squat will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this fall with a new CD and anniversary shows in Athens, Atlanta, Macon, and Clemson. The new CD, Recycled 1994-2004, is the band's 5th and is a compilation of old material from past albums (including the out of print Tales From the Side of the Road and Placebo CDs) and new material with the latest addition to the band, drummer Darren Stanley. Although Darren has been performing with the group off and on over the past 2 years, he became a full time member earlier this year. The three new tracks for the CD are also the first the band has recorded using overdubs and audible vocals. All of the old material on the CD has been remastered and several of the songs have been remixed or retracked.

CD release shows:
10/15 Seney-Stovall Chapel. Athens, GA. www.cviog.uga.edu/chapel/ 8 p.m.
10/29 The Jazzplex. Macon, GA.
10/30 The Red Light Cafe. Atlanta, GA. www.redlightcafe.com.
11/12 The Joint. Clemson, SC.
The Athens and Atlanta shows will begin with solo sets from several of the band members and a slide show of bad haircuts from the past 10 years narrated by pianist and saxophonist Tommy Somerville. The Athens show will also include a set by our mentor, jazz pianist and composer Steve Dancz. Guests for the chapel concert also include original drummer Carlton Owens and pianist and trombonist Kevin Hyde. In addition to keeping busy playing weddings on the weekends, Squat is also pursuing house gigs in the Athens and Atlanta area. Beginning October 1, Squat will be performing the first Friday of every month at the Apache Cafe in Atlanta from 8:30-11:30 p.m.
