We are excited to announce that we will be reuniting with drummer Dwayne Holloway for the September shows in Athens and Atlanta. Dwayne was an consistent player in the group during the late 90's but he moved to Philly in 2001. Dwayne played on Cycles, Placebo, Gruelash, and Recycled so expect some old classics!

Also, the Trey Wright Trio's second CD Thinking Out Loud was released on Blue Canoe Records this Spring. The CD features original compositions by Trey and Squat/Grogus drummer Marlon Patton as well as covers of Soundgarden's "Blow up the Outside World" and "Analyse" by Thom Yorke. We are excited to announce that the CD releases for the new CD (simply titled "Squat") have been booked. The Atlanta CD release will be 2/16-17 at Churchill Grounds and the Athens release will be 2/24 at the Melting Point. The New CD was recorded at my house in Decatur and is the first CD to feature Squat drummer Darren Stanley (he played on two tracks on Recycled). This is also the first CD in which we have experiment with overdubbing and editing. The results range from the salsa/Brazilian girls mix of "Estrellas" to the mellow "nepsis" and "dialogue" as well as the experimental "Bronkar". We will put clips up on this site in the coming weeks as well as our myspace page (still being built) at www.myspace.com/squatjazz.

In the fall, we are expecting two new additions to the extended Squat family. Tommy will be having a son in late August and Trey has a son due in December! Much excitement .... In the meantime, we will be scaling back our club shows for the fall. Once the kids have made their appearance, we will be back in the winter to release our 6th Cd! 6/06 We are excited to announce that Squat won the best jazz band award at the year's Flagpole Athens Music Awards! We won the award from 1999-2002 and are excited to win again! Thanks to everyone that voted for us. We are about to begin mixing the new CD, due out sometime in the fall. Along with the CD, we will be releasing a remix CD of some of the more dance oriented material. Should be fun .... it allows us to tinker with our computers a little.

Squat guitarist Trey Wright released his first solo album Where I'm Calling From in February 2006. The CD was recorded at his home studio in Decatur and features Squat bassist Carl Lindberg on Djembe, Squat engineer Marlon Patton on drums (and as recording engineer), Blue Canoe recording artist E.j. Hughes on tenor, Mace Hibbard on alto, Scott Smith on upright, and Squat's unofficial fifth member Kevin Hyde on trombone. To hear selections from the CD, check out www.cdbaby.com/treywright and www.treywright.com Squat has been hard at work at Trey's studio in Decatur on the band's sixth CD! The CD features old but never recorded classics including "Bert's Song" and "Whisperin' in Portuguese" along with new material including "Estrellas", "dialogues", and "away". The 10 or 11 track CD will also include a cover of "the railroad work song". This Cd will be completely different than anything we have ever done, the freedom of the home studio allows us to do overdubs (including 2 drums sets on "broncarr") and vocals. We are all very excited about it! Also, Squat will be performing at the 2006 Atlanta Jazz Festival on memorial Day weekend at Piedmont park! We last played the festival in 2000, and have been trying to figure out how to get them to have us back ever since. We will play from 1-2 p.m. in Sunday, May 28. Last, but not least Squat will has selected "Rickshaw" to be included in the upcoming CD compilation "The Future of Jazz Volume 1: Live From Churchill Grounds". The CD should be out in late Spring.
